Rotary Tables

Rotary tables are mechanical devices for controlling motion on orthogonal axes, converting the continuous rotary motion of the input shaft into intermittent rotary motion (of the rotating disc) at the output.

They are used to position parts around a circular path with high accuracy and repeatability in assembly, packaging and processing machines. CDS rotary indexing tables cover a wide range of sizes and applications. Standard versions offer from 2 to 32+ stations, including odd numbers of divisions. On request, the number of stations can be increased and tailored to the specific requirements of the machine. CDS rotary tables are suitable for both fast and slow indexing cycles. The TR and HT series are designed to support unbalanced loads and heavy tooling without compromising accuracy or service life.

Technical specifications

Friction cam follower
The friction cam follower technology used in CDS rotary tables ensures permanent contact between cam and followers. This design delivers vibration-free motion, zero backlash and precise positioning even at high index rates, with very low noise levels and long operating life.

Cam shape and motion law
In mechanical rotary indexing tables, the cam profile is defined by the chosen motion law, which controls acceleration, deceleration and dwell, affecting dynamic behaviour, vibration and wear. By optimising the motion law, CDS engineers tune the cam profile for the required speed, smoothness, positioning accuracy and durability. All cam profiles are CNC-machined and induction hardened to ensure long-term wear resistance and dimensional stability, even at high speeds and under high loads.

Lubed for life
All rotary tables are lubricated with mineral-based oil. The sealing system allows operation in any mounting position without leakage, while keeping the internal components protected from contamination. Under normal operating conditions, the units are essentially lubed for life, which reduces routine maintenance, simplifies machine design and helps prevent unplanned downtime.

Indexed rotary tables (mechanical)

Indexed rotary tables are characterised by a predefined mechanical movement guided by a barrel cam profile. They are ideal for high-speed, repetitive cycles where positions and indexing times remain constant over the life of the machine. Based on the application requirements, CDS selects the most suitable rotary table, choosing between cylindrical and globoidal cam versions.

These mechanical rotary indexing tables are widely used in rotary assembly systems, packaging machines, printing and decoration lines, machining and other processes where speed, reliability and long life are critical.

Programmable rotary tables (servo-driven)

Programmable rotary tables combine CDS mechanical technology with brushless servo motors and electronic controls. In these units, position, speed, acceleration and dwell times are fully programmable.

They are ideal for complex, customised or frequently changing applications where the output angle, and/or the cycle time may need to be adjusted over time while maintaining high accuracy and repeatability.

Rotary ring tables with large through hole

Rotary ring tables integrate an indexing mechanism with a large central opening. The large through hole provides additional space and design flexibility

Thanks to this design, rotary ring tables are an excellent choice for compact, high-density automation platforms, especially where many operations must be performed around a central tool or process while keeping the overall footprint small.

Rotary Ring Tables

Thanks to their large central hole, rotary ring tables offer greater design flexibility and additional space for components, wiring, or tools to pass through.
